On the afternoon of January 7, 2014, CIUD held the first closing ceremony to present certificates to 15 students who had completed the Chinese Course of Great Wall Chinese during the Fall Semester last year.
The ceremony was held at the Al Masaood campus of the University of Dubai. Prof. Ma Jun, Director of the Confucius Institute, together with Chinese instructor Zhang Jichao and 15 students attended the ceremony. After his brief speech, Prof. Ma presented the certificates - issued with joint signatures of the UD President and the Chinese Director of CIUD - to the 15 students.
During the meeting after the ceremony, the students affirmed their full gratitude for the dedicated teaching arrangements, teaching methods used and the teachers’ efforts. Meanwhile, students put forward relevant proposals concerning the curriculum, references and self-learning materials, and modifications of textbooks. Prof. Ma said CIUD would make the appropriate adjustments and continue to foster efforts to improve teaching, and enhance teaching methods to align with the practical orientation of CIUD.
Prof. Ma finally emphasized that CIUD, under the leadership of the Confucius Institute Headquarters, will continue to strive to promote Chinese culture and respond to Dubai residents’ need for study of the Chinese language. He affirmed that CIUD would do its best to improve the level and quality of Chinese language training and enhance the reputation and popularity of CIUD.
After the meeting, CIUD staff and students had a group photo taken to mark the occasion and each participant was presented with a T-shirt and a badge displaying CIUD’s logo.
The Spring Semester of the program was officially launched on Jan. 19, 2014.
