Consul General of People’s Republic of China met with President of University of Dubai

On Jan. 19, 2014, Mr. Tang Weibin, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China, visited the University of Dubai, and met with Dr. Eesa Bastaki, President of UD.

Dr. Eesa stated that UD focused on developing students’ leadership, creativity, and entrepreneurship, and that UD adheres to the educational principle of making university study serve a practical purpose, which matches the UAE’s developmental strategies. He asserted that he was greatly impressed by China’s speedy development and its long history, and he said the UAE could learn from China’s experience as a developing nation. UD will enhance collaboration with the General Consulate to employ every means possible to assist in the growth and development of the Confucius Institute at the University of Dubai.

Mr. Tang commended the academic concepts and principles of the University of Dubai, and pointed out that the year 2014 is the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Sino-UAE diplomatic relations, and congratulated the city of Dubai on its selection as the venue for Expo 2020. At present, the consumption capacity of the Chinese people in Dubai is significant and in the future, Dubai will need the services of more and more Chinese language speakers.

He confirmed that people in UAE will gain more opportunities as China’s economy grows stronger, and he expressed the hope that CIUD as a part of UD will strive to encourage student interest in and enthusiasm for studying the Chinese language.

Chinese Director Ma Jun and the teachers of Chinese were also present at the meeting.
